At the foot of Puy Mary, a stone's throw from Murat or Le Lioran, L'EPICERIE DE DIENNE welcomes you to the beautiful Santoire Valley, for a Comfortable & Gourmet break.
Located at an altitude of over 1000m, in the center of the remarkable Cantal village Dienne, our restaurant offers a different menu every day.
All our dishes are homemade and the products are mostly organic, local and seasonal.
In the spirit of the new inns, the place is warm and open : depending on the season, in winter you can warm up near the fire-place, the rest of the year relax on the terrace or in the garden. Enjoy coffee or refreshments, accompanied by homemade ice cream or freshly baked cakes.
Three hiker ROOMS await you at first floor, with breakfast and/or half board.

Let us introduce ourselves more broadly !
We are located in the Santoire Valley, on the road to the Grand Site du Puy Mary.
In the heart of the Auvergne Volcanoes Park and the Cantal Mountains, we are ideally placed for your visits by bike, trial, hiking or even paragliding.
We offer three rooms and a restaurant for your stay.
Breakfast can be served to you in the restaurant area.
We also offer a Half-board option.

The TEAM

We are a family team. Agneta, who manages the place, has given it an undeniable Scandinavian touch. From her past as an automotive designer, she has retained her creativity and attention to detail. Together with Jean-Philippe in the kitchen we are both at the heart of the project, and it is together that we welcome you to the restaurant or for an extended stay. We sometimes benefit from the invaluable presence of our children, family, or friends. We love what's good (taste and health) and beautiful ! Above all, we love to surprise and introduce you to new flavors and new wines. In short, we bring ourselves joy by bringing joy to you !





TO DISCOVER
in THE VALLEY, in the SUMMER PASTURES or on the CRESTS
Hiking ... discover a multitude of hiking trails around the Cantal Mountains starting from Dienne. Short 2-3 hour loops begin in the village and lead to, among other things, the Gendarme's Cross and the Limon Plateau with its landscapes reminiscent of "Mongolia", the Entremont region and Lake Collanges, which evoke Scandinavia, as well as the Laqueuille Rock and the village of Drils, testaments to the geological and historical heritage of the Cantal.
From the Col de Serre, just a few minutes away by car, or by shuttle bus in high season, you can spend the day around Puy Mary on the GR4 long-distance hiking trail or on the various hiking routes that will take you to La Brèche de Rolland, the Col de Cabre, or Peyre Arse—all paths winding through the valley and along the ridges surrounding the iconic pyramidal silhouette. Here you are in the heart of the largest volcano in Europe, even though it has been extinct for millions of years ! The landscapes that bear witness to this are impressive and constantly changing throughout the four seasons.





By bike ... on road or off-road, discover the four mountain passes of Pas de Peyrol, Pertus, Cère, and Entremont, passing through Puy Mary, Mandailles, Saint-Jacques-des-Blats, and Le Lioran. You can take a loop to explore the Cezallier region, starting from Dienne or Allanche, or stay on the Pinatelle plateau and access Lac du Pêcher, Lac Sauvage, and the Jolan peat bog. The route climbs and descends through rolling landscapes frequented by numerous amateur and professional athletes, including the Tour de France, which has passed through here since 1959 and is scheduled to return in the summer of 2026!






By train or car ... around Puy Mary you'll find valleys rich in heritage and spectacular landscapes that change with the seasons. Murat train station is less than 10 km away and is served in the summer by a shuttle bus that travels through the valleys and stops practically at our doorstep! The Liorant ski resort is 18 km away.
Nestled in these valleys, the small villages boast Romanesque churches, watermills, and stone houses with slate roofs. Discover the local cuisine, cheeses and meats from the local Acajou Salers breed (the emblem of Cantal), charcuterie, mountain gentian, natural wines from the surrounding area, and craft beers. We would be delighted to guide you on your visits!


On all fours .... with its very rich biodiversity, the Cantal region is an ideal place for observation and dioscovery. Amateur or professional naturalists, natur lovers of all ages, will find somlething to enjoy. By opening your eyes and ears wide you can easily see Chamois, Marmots or Doe, but also the hummingbird hawk-moth, the red kite and even the griffon vulture. In spring you can hear the midwife toad and in automn the inimitable bellow of the red Deer Stag ...









Paragliding ... this exceptional environment makes it an ideal site for your individual or group flights. Perhaps during a first flight with the nearby paragliding school "Thang-ka", with its landing field at the foot of L'EPICERIE DE DIENNE !







ACCOMMODATION

L'EPICERIE DE DIENNE, located on the route of long-distance hiking trails that cross the Cantal stratovolcano, is an ideal stop at the foot of Puy Mary, but it can also serve as a base camp for exploring the region.
The house has 3 bedrooms with a total capacity of 6-8 people. Good nights are guaranteed in all seasons, thanks to comfortable bedding and a pleasant temperature, summer and winter.
L'EPICERIE DE DIENNE has a garden where it's pleasant to relax in the shade of the apple tree after a day's walk. There, you can quench your thirst with a local beer or homemade elderflower syrup while waiting for dinner.
Two large tables and a few deck chairs are available for our guests, ideal for observing the comings and goings of the swallows that nest under the roof or the butterflies that come to sip nectar from the flowers in the vegetable garden...

The Rooms
Rooms for 2-3 people
Three rooms are available to enjoy a good night's sleep.
All rooms have two single beds that can be joined together, rooms A and C have a bench seat that can be used as an extra bed.
Price 68 € per night and per room (based on 2p/room), extra bed +18 €.
Bed linen and towels are provided, the beds are made with our sheets dried outside in the mountain air.
Access to the shared bathroom with a large shower, sink and washing machine (€5 extra cost in use).

The Garden and
the vegetable garden
Behind L'EPICERIE you'll find the Garden, with two big tables and some deck chairs for a good rest, for dinner or take a drink. We also grow here flowers, fruits and vegetables, that are often used in the Restaurant.
Sometimes you will see the sheets hung out to dry in the garden, it is not only to print the mountain fragrance but also to save energy and care of our natural ressources.












The Restaurant is open mainly during the summer holidays, in July and August, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, as well as Sunday at lunchtime.
Outside of this period, we open occasionally.

We offer you a "family" inspired cuisine, mostly organic, local and seasonal, accompanied by a short wine list, mainly also organic and sometimes natural.
The price of the 3 course Menu is 32€,
cheese plate +6€.
If you want to eat and sleep at L'EPICERIE DE DIENNE you can take advantage of the half-board offer,
at €72 per night per person in a double room,
at €90 per person in a single room. Minimum stay 2 nights.
This offer includes the dinner, the overnight stay and
the breakfast.
